How to Rate a Co-op













Note: Before getting started, we recommend registering. While this is required in order to rate a co-op, it also provides an account that can save your reviews, lets you mark your favorites while browsing, and allows us to give you the maximum amount of support, while providing a great experience during your search!

Step 1: Getting Started
To rate a co-op you first need to register. Once you have registered and/or logged into the site, click on the “rate a co-op” button on the left side in the middle of the home page.
 
Step 2: Basic Description
The first section of the review is directed at the basic information of where you worked. It includes the company name, department name, and your specific job title.  This helps browsers to understand where you worked in relation to both your company, and your major.

Step 3: The Ratings
Our rating system has been formulated on 7 key components of the co-op program that, when combined, we feel provide a great summary and overview of your personal experience on co-op. Each factor can be ranked on a 1-5 scale (represented on our site by stars) and a brief description of each is provided below:

Amount of Responsibility: Think of your personal levels of responsibility here.  Whether this means getting coffee for the CEO, or reviewing multi-billion dollar investment plans, or just opening the mail every day for your boss, we want to know how much responsibility you felt you had!

Opportunities for Growth: This could have two different aspects. The first being growth within your six month stay, or long term growth for possible job security.  Try to stay objective in this, meaning even if you perhaps didn’t enjoy your co-op, the company could value co-ops for future positions; this is valuable information for many students in today’s markets!

Did you learn a lot? The more personal you’re rating, the better.  Try not to feel guilty here, or embarrassed! Sometimes you don’t learn much at all, and other times you gain immense volumes of knowledge on co-op… either way, let us know! Also, this could include anything from life lessons, to formulas, don’t feel that procedural knowledge is the only beneficial kind.

Resume Builder: Was this a company that future employers will see on a resume and get excited? Were your duties impressive on paper? Did you report directly to a Partner?  These are aspects of building a resume, but not all.  In many cases, it is the daily tasks that make a co-op, not just name dropping!
Networking Opportunities: Did you meet a lot of people? Did you have to go buy a rolodex a month in? Let us know if this co-op provided good networking for you; as we are all learning, this is a key aspect of the ‘real world’!

Office Environment
: Were there nerf battles every Tuesday? Was it gossip-central? Let us know how fun and productive your office environment was, or rather, how much value you placed in it.

Ease of Commute: Did the level of traffic in the morning dictate your mood for the rest of the day? Or did you wake up, and stroll two blocks down the street?

Step 4: Personal Information
Pretty basic; just let us know if you are male or female, and what your major is.  This is important, because it can give perspective into why you went on that specific co-op, or as to why you were qualified.

Step 5: General Information
Some basic notes of interest, including location, hourly pay rate, and a general number of hours you worked each week.

Level of Difficulty: How hard was the overall workload for you; whether it was a few specific jobs that were hard or if there was a heavy learning curve?

What number co-op is this?
This is important, because it gives the reader good perspective into your entire rating.

In the area asking what you did on your co-op, the more detail the better!  The more you describe the cleaner and more accurate the ratings become, which is beneficial to everyone!  If you’re not sure whether or not to put it in, just go for it! (Note: Before posting any work specific material, please check with your company and/or supervisor about any confidentiality terms you may have signed!)
